buggal's' posts with tag: friday five
Good morning! After the last couple of weeks of memories, I started to think, other than toys and those catchy jingles...what was more fun to do?....than watch cartoons? Growing up mom didn't give us much time in front of the TV, but we did try to get in as much Saturday morning cartoons as we could! So, what were your 5 favorite cartoon characters? And why? Have fun, and best wishes for a wonderful weekend - Deputy Dog
- Fat Albert
- Coyote (I hoped he'd eat that annoying roadrunner)
- Pink Panther
- Tweety Bird
Good morning Friday Fivers! Last week we had a great time remembering all the old commercial jingles, so this week I thought it would be fun to remember 5 of the toys we cherished as a child. There were some wonderful toys back in the day, let's hear about the one you loved the most! 1. Slinky: We were never without one. We had untold hours of fun playing with our slinky! 2. Barbies: We only had one apiece and one Ken and few clothes, but we made clothes out of scraps of cloths and tissues held on by tinfoil belts and actuated with tinfoil jewelry. We had a fashion show and a wedding every day. My granddaughter has about 30 barbies and Kens and I don't think she has the fun we had. 3. Crayons: We colored miles of coloring books with our stubs of crayons. A fresh box was few and far between and we all coveted, but never got the 64 crayon set with a built in sharpener. 4. Baby Dolls: Our babies, one each again, we loved and lugged around and taken to the doctor and given shots. I think the shot bit happened after WE had to go to the doctor. I cringe when I think of the fact that thee needles were reused. I hope he had an office autoclave! One of our favorite things to do was to bundle up all our babies (we did occasionally get a new one for Christmas) and play train. That none of us had ever been on a train didn't limit our imagination of what it was like to ride a train. 5. Play Dough: We had hours of fun making things with play dough.
This weeks Friday Five comes from Grainne. She got my toes tappin and my mind whirling...but my memory isn't what it use to be! LOL Remember when you were a kid and those crafty marketers got all those jingles stuck in your head..."He's a honeycomb kid, givin' all he's got.." "If you believe in Peanut Butter Clap your hands..." Remember those? I noticed that today's commercials for kids and adults alike are all action, no jingles....Poor jingle writers sitting lonely in their Glendale homes obsessing over their great cereal campaigns. So...give us 5 of your favorite jingles that you remember growing up with! Good to the last drop - Foldgers It's shake & bake and we helped Melts in your mouth, not in your hands - M&Ms How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootise roll pop? I'd like to buy the world a coke
http://fridayfivegroup.multiply.com/journal/item/37 5 Movies that: took your breath way, left a profound impact on you that you could not shake for a few days or hours, that you've watched so many times that you know the script line by line, that you've laughed so hard you though your stomach would burst, or one that unexpectedly put a lump in your throat. 1. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: took your breath way: The scenery and the story will take your breath away. Martial arts fights and Chinese scenery will take your breath away. 2. House of Flying Daggers: took your breath way: above. A "blind" thief who is an expert in using daggers loves two me. 3. Sergeant York: that you've watched so many times that you know the script line by line, one that unexpectedly put a lump in your throat, left a profound impact on you that you could not shake for a few days or hours: The movie will leave you with a lump in your throat. We actually play a game on trips quoting from the movie. This is a true story of a hellraiser turned Christian who fights and becomes a hero in WWI. 4. White Dragon: that you've laughed so hard you though your stomach would burst: Funny and touching. Action and underneath it all a love story. A blind assasin and White Dragon spar. 5. Beauty and the Beast: took your breath way: One of my favorite stories of all time brought to life. You almost wish that Beast doesn't turn back into a prince but stays the Beast.
post your link here: http://fridayfivegroup.multiply.com/journal/item/31/Friday_Five_Superstitions?replies_read=19 Five superstitions I've heard: - Don't cut the thread off clothes you are wearing, it's bad luck!
- Black cat, blah, blah!
- From my Mom: Hold up the top of the car when you go under a train overpass or the top will cave in - this could be considered bad luck!
- Mirror - you will have bad luck for seven years TIMES the number of pieces the mirror breaks into!
- Never go back after you've started out (like don't go back into the house after you've left the house to go somewhere - it's bad luck!)!
OK - I had three original ones!
Link to Hostage's page - http://tinyurl.com/6f54w6 http://jacklyn705.multiply.com/journal/item/347/Friday_Five_for_6608 - Playing Fairies on the front lawn. The one neighborhood boy was a troll and he was supposed to catch us and take us back to his cave for nefarious purposes. Of course we always escaped when he went to catch the rest of us.
- Playing barbies by the hours. We didn't have much money for clothes so we made clothes out of cloth scraps and tissues and made tinfoil jewelry. We had at least one wedding a day.
- Playing "old time" with blankets wrapped around our waist and playing cooking in the fire place.
- Playing train with our babies. I had one newborn a set of 6 mth old twins and a 3 year old. I obviously had no idea about gestation! We smoked crayon cigarettes which considering my loathing of cigarettes even then was remarkable. Why we were always riding the train is a mystery!
- Swinging. Considering I got my toe cut off (and it was sewn back on in the DOCTOR'S OFFICE and "took" and I got a broken collar bone it's amazing I wanted to swing all the time. Swinging was dangerous for me.)
- I'll add a sixth for me - reading while hiding under my bed so my Mom wouldn't catch me and make me go outside. I guess Mom's think there is something known as too much reading!!!

I lost my Mother 3 years ago July 31. Here are some of our most memorable moments: - The time she spanked me when I was 16 becasue my older sister kicked our younger sister out of the car becasue she was whining and then made my boyfriend take us to the Mall to get ice cream. My little sister walked to Showtown, drive in theater, while we were walking and driving up and down the WRONG road looking for her. Of course the manager at Showtown called Mom and we got our butts whipped although I protested the entire time about leaving her on the corner alone (she was 13). Did I mention this was MY date that both my sisters horned in on becasue they were in love with my boyfriend.
- Getting in trouble for not being home on time even though I was sitting in the swing with the above boyfriend and a picture of koolaid was on the table WITH my PURSE and the swing made loud creaking noises and the porch light was on and we were in plain view. I was IN TROUBLE. She had called my friends and was about to call the police when I came in. My major concern was keeping her from noticing my new hickey.
- Mom buying me a really expensive little girl dress when I was pregnant - but it turned out to be a boy! I'm keeping it for his little girl.
- Mom being there for me every time I needed her - when I was visciously sick during my pregnancy, there for my gall bladder surgery and with me for my six month long headache although she had bone cancer. This is just a few times she was there for me.
- Being her favorite - her Sweet & Precious - her best friend! Now I have to go cry!
http://fridayfivegroup.multiply.com/journal/item/21/_Friday_Five_School_Days_Again - Dating two of the NSU Entertainers (a band) at the same time and really wanting to date a third whose singing voice would melt your knees!
- Going to a toga party at a faternity in a flower printed sheet.
- Going to the library with my suitemate to protect her from the campus molestor and meeting my future husband.
- It snowing and everyone running out and playing in the snow (what little there was).
- Drinking white lighting and lemonade with a guy friend.
- And I have to add #6: Making out with a gay guy!
1. Getting caught being kissed by Shad in the Chemistry chemical room. Two teachers saw us - drat those windows! 2. Winning the Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award. 3. Taking Geometry with Zandra and Steve and passing notes under Mrs Mounts' nose. Especially as we referred to her as the mounted creature!. 4. Sending a not to a friend who was a boy and just commenting on how in grade school we used to send the Jr high boys notes on the bus with boxes and things like do you love me on it and getting the note back from the boy who was just a FRIEND with the "Do you love me" box checked. 5. Breaking a slid in sophomore Biology class and a guy took the blame for it, but he called me "Little Melba Broken Slide" for the rest of high school!

Hello everyone it's that time of the week again for Friday Five this week's theme is brought to you by abdansab. This week’s theme is five bad ideas? It could be historical, public or personal be sure to check his page out http://abdansab.multiply.com/ Copy this to your blog, including your responses, and be sure to come back here to add your link to the comments. Remember we decided that only the weekly prompts will be posted to the Group Blog. Any other questions, comments, or suggestions should be posted in comments or to the Group Notes. 1. Cooking bacon in a bikini. My stepfather wanted me to come in from sunbathing (a pointless measure for me) to make him lunch - so I put the bacon on while I was in my swimsuit - BAD idea! Bacon grease popping on your boobies hurts! 2. Getting a bad sunburn AND getting stung by jellyfish at the same time. This was BEFORE sunscreen BUT - use sunscreen NOW. OR avoid the beach if you glow in the dark and don't tan! 3. Walking barefoot on a hot asphalt road. Little blobs of tar will adhere to your feet and this is painful and they must WEAR off as nothing will remove them. A friend and I set out to another friends house one day BAREFOOT, in July, in the DEEP south, on an asphalt road - we were sorry we left our shoes behind by the time we were halfway there - and when we got there - She WASN'T there! No matter how far you have walked, turn around and go get your shoes! 4. Drinking a lot of water on a long car trip with a male who have bladders roughly the size of a watermelon and NEVER have to make a pit stop, unless you have them well trained like I do my hubbie! 5. Never watering your plants. My son has an aloe vera he i slowly killing by not watering it. Momma feels sorry for it and gives it a drink every now and again - but it's HIS plant he begged me to buy him and we had to go to THREE stores to get it! I tried to think of things that had happened to me or mine in these bad ideas. Sorry they really suck - except the one about not making bacon in a bikini - that is a good one to know!

Hi all, on behalf of all the Admins, I welcome all the folks who've joined us since last week and those returning, too! This week's prompt is brought to us from our Friday Fiver, Bren, check out her site here. Name 5 things you would really like to change, either with yourself, your community, your family, your country, whatever.... Copy this to your blog, including your responses, and be sure to come back here to add your link to the comments. Also, remember we decided last week that only the weekly prompts will be posted to the Group Blog. Any other questions, comments, or suggestions should be posted in comments or to the Group Notes. Thanks, and Happy Fiving! Five Things I'd Like To Change #1 I'd have my sisters and I not to have bipolar disorder. #2 I'd like to lose weight. #3 I'd like to get in shape (the whole family really). #4 I'd like to spend a month in the Smokies. #5 I'd like the Lord to come again, but first I'd like every man, woman and child to be saved. Of these about ZERO are doable! But hey, it's what I want changed! The best I can pray for is that we all remain stable in the "normal" mode (#1) and I am in an Aquatic Exercise Program for people with arthritis - I have fibromyalgia, so maybe 2 and 3 WILL happen. And we will go to southern Missouri for a week in June, so I'll have to content myself with that and as for #5 praying doesn't hurt, I'm not much on prophylsilng - it's not my gift - but I do what I can to spread the word and be a living example of Christ - of course I can never achieve or hope to achieve his level of perfection - but I give it my best shot. And I do pray - for people I read about here or in the news or just see on the street. That's about all I can try to do is my BEST!
1. Jesus, the man: He is the only perfect human yet he showed a gambit of human emotions ranging from love, compassion, righteous anger and most of all forgiveness. If all people i admire him the most! 2. Miss Carpenter, my first grade teacher and Miss Newcomb, my high school chemistry teacher: These were teachers who heavily influenced my life. There were many others, to many to name. But these ladies stand out especially in my memory. 3. Firemen, police officer, public workers: These people do "dirty" jobs we wouldn't want to do ourselves so we can have a "civilised" life style. 4. Billy Graham: Of all the evangelist I can think of his name has never been besmirched and he did great things to pass on religion not only in other countries but in our own. I also admire the little church country pastor who may only reach tow or three unsaved people a year. Our sheep need feed. 5. My Mother: My Mother was the rock of the family. Now that she is gone the family is breaking apart. How she kept all of us together without anyone killing the other I'll never know.
 1. When I was pregnant and the smell of food or coffee sent me to the restroom to hurl, "they" started making coffee two or three times a day when "they" had previously gone to the front office for "their" coffee. This is probally why I had to later take a medical retirement from this job. 2. This is a sad one: One of the mentally retarded pts came from a local institution and he had had a heart attack. He was gonna be in ICU on Christmas so I made sure I worked Christmas Eve night (11-7) and I had bought him lots of little toys a boy (although he had a man's body he was a boy) would want and filled his stocking till it overflowed. I had to wake him cause I wanted to be there when "Santa" came. He was so excited! He went out to the floor a few days later - and it stopped me in my tracts to come in and see he was back in the ICU, he had extended (made worse) his heart attack. He went rapidly downhill clutching one of the cars I gave him till he was dying. He called me "momma" (all the "kids" from the institution called everyone female who took care of them "momma") and he was laying here dying and crying "Momma it hurts" over and over after only a short time I called the doctor and said either you give me an order for morphine (something they didn't want to do because his blood pressure was low) or she could come up there and listen to him call HER momma and be able to do nothing for him. I got my order. And he went to Jesus' arms in my arms and not in pain. It makes me cry today to think of my little Charlie baby dying and hurting, but at least I know I did everything possible - including seeing if he knew Jesus and making sure he wasn't in pain. 3. On a less sad note: On my first job as a brand new nurse the other nurses were introducing me to the doctors as they filtered by. Dr K picked me up, threw me over his shoulder and told them to "wake us in the morning" as he headed off down the hall with me (he put me down). 4. On another occasion, the same doctor bit me on the jaw and I had to wear makeup 24/7 to keep my hubbie from coming up to the hospital and fighting the doc. My hubbie was a 90 lb weakling (not really, but close) and the doc was buff (not really, but close)....sooooo I wanted to preserve peace at all costs! 5. At the same hospital one of the ER docs was exceptionally unkempt looking. He was clean but looked like he slept in his clothes and never combed his hair. After he left the room the patient would invariably ask me "Was THAT the Doctor?". I always had to assure him he was a good doctor - cause he was and when I went to leave that ER to move away he begged me to stay and told me I could name my salary if I'd stay. A interesting ending to the begining fact that he and I didn't hit it off at first - I was a new nervous nurse and he was for some reason a very nervous, unsure doc though he knew his stuff. Oh, he spiffed up when he started going out with one of the other docs and I didn't have to reassure patients anymore. Too bad it didn't work out cause I thought they were a cute couple and her sons NEEDED a father!
What five things in your life/house is it past time to THROW OUT? 1. Son's old underwear. Enugh said! 2. Last year's Easter candy! 3. Paper, paper, and more paper! 4. Hurt feeling's from my OLD pain doc who is an ANAL, FASELY calling me a "drug abuser". 5. Hummm, I'm just too attached to my JUNK!
This week's theme and questions were provided by Jacklyn705, click here to go to her page.
February 1 is Groundhog's Day . . . this week's questions are a "Groundhog Day" theme based on the movie, which involves things you wish you could do over just like Bill Murray does in the film:
For those of you not familiar with the movie, click here. 1) Name one place you have been that you wish you could wake up as a pleasant surprise. The Smokey Mtns in the Townsend Inn.
2) Name one song that you wouldn't mind playing every single morning when you wake up. Amazing Grace
3) Name one person you would like to have a do-over with as he does with Andie McDowell's character. Doug Horton
4) Name one decision you've made that you'd revise if you could. Letting a certain person become our unit secetary.
5) If you had the chance to know what your day held, would you want to? Why or why not? Yes, so I could change the "bad" things and make them into "good" things.
