Blog Entry4th of July Children's ProgramJun 26, '08 3:25 PM
for everyone

I just finished up doing my 4th of July stuff for the Children's Church progam. My hubbie is doing the program and hasn't even looked at the info I've typed up for him (it's Sunday)! I got the coloring books copied and the goodie bags made and the juice in the fridge and the craft stuff laid out. All I have to do is buy cookies on Satudary. I'm doing a little goodie bag to passs out to the youth. It will have this attached to the bag with a cross dogtag craft kit and candy in the bag:

Be Subject to the Government:  19) Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny. 20) And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? 21) They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's. 22) When they had heard these words, they marveled, and left him, and went their way. (Matthew 22:19-22)

Be Subject to Your Elders:  5) You younger men, likewise, be subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble. (1 Peter 5:5 ESV)

Be Subject to Your Parents: Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.” Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. (Ephesians 6:1-4 ESV) Be Subject to God "The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it upon the seas and established it upon the waters." (Psalm 24:1-2; cf. Psalm 89:11; 1 Corinthians 10:26)

So every single thing is God’s, and if we render unto God the things that are God’s, we render unto God everything. We are to give to Caesar merely the coins (and other things) which enable Caesar to govern. This verse does not limit God at all. It limits Caesar. ********************************************

What do ya think?  Should I do anything else?  Now I'm going to lay down and rest. I didn't get to Multiply yesterday so I had a lot of reading to do today! I won't skip a day again!

Blog EntryMy Lesson for the 4thMay 19, '08 4:39 PM
for everyone

This is the outline of verses for my 4th of July Children's lesson.  Can YOU think of anything more?

Fourth of July Children’s Lesson

1) Be Subject to Government

a)     1Every (A)person is to be in (B)subjection to the governing authorities For (C)there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God.    2Therefore whoever resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves. Romans 13:1-2 (New American Standard Bible)

b)   Mat 22:15  Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk. 16  And they sent out unto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men. 17  Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not? 18  But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites? 19  Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny. 20  And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? 21  They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's. 22  When they had heard these words, they marvelled, and left him, and went their way.

i)     So every single thing is God’s, and if we render unto God the things that are God’s, we render unto God everything.  We are to give to Caesar merely the coins (and other things) which enable Caesar to govern.  This verse does not limit God at all.  It limits Caesar.

2)       Be Subject to your Elders

a)     (1 Peter 5:1-7) 1 Therefore, I exhort the elders among you, as your fellow elder and witness of the sufferings of Christ, and a partaker also of the glory that is to be revealed, 2 shepherd the flock of God among you, exercising oversight not under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to the will of God; and not for sordid gain, but with eagerness; 3 nor yet as lording it over those allotted to your charge, but proving to be examples to the flock. 4 And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory. 5 You younger men, likewise, be subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble. 6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, 7 casting all your anxiety upon Him, because He cares for you.

b)   Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
(1 Peter 5:5 ESV)

3)       Be Subject to your parents

a)    Every one of you shall revere his mother and his father, and you shall keep my Sabbaths: I am the LORD your God. (Leviticus 19:3 ESV)

b)   My son, keep your father’s commandment, and forsake not your mother’s teaching.
(Proverbs 6:20 ESV)

c)    Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.” Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
(Ephesians 6:1-4 ESV)

d)   “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you.
(Exodus 20:12 ESV)

e)   Hear, my son, your father’s instruction, and forsake not your mother’s teaching, for they are a graceful garland for your head and pendants for your neck.
(Proverbs 1:8-9 ESV)

f)    (Jesus) went down with them and came to Nazareth and was submissive to them. And his mother treasured up all these things in her heart. And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man.(Luke 2:51-52 ESV)

4)       Be subject to the LORD

a)    Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness. For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
(Hebrews 12:9-11 ESV)

b)   "Everything under heaven belongs to me." (Job 41:11)

c)    "The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it upon the seas and established it upon the waters." (Psalm 24:1-2; cf. Psalm 89:11; 1 Corinthians 10:26)

Fourth of July

Respect of our Church and Country Leaders

This program will teach our children to respect of our Church (pastor, deacons, SS teachers, CC teachers, etc.) and Country leaders.

BEFORE PROGRAM:

1.       Set date for a Sunday around the 4th (check with the Pastor).  Arrange for help (will need it during craft time).  Publish in bulletin.  Program is for children 3 to 12.  Announce and explain purpose of program during the Sunday service.

2.       Don’t forget to arrange for refreshments.  Keep them light – flag cupcakes/ cookies and juice bottle.  Have enough for 24.

3.       Make about 24 goodie bags before program.  Some items are in the hall closet.  Will need to buy candy for bags right before filling them (there are jellybeans and candy canes in the hall closet).  Children from church that did not come to program and those in the Nursery will also want to get one before leaving church so we need extra and any extra goodie bag items can be recycled.  Extra items can be saved for next year, used for the Christmas boxes or in the “Treasure Box” for Children’s Church (prizes given to children every first Sunday for being “good”).  Give the extra candy to the next Children’s Church teacher to pass out.

4.       Make sure there is cardstock in office for coloring book front and back pages and cards – ask Bro Ken to buy some if there isn’t any.

5.       Give out invites/reminders the Sunday before the program in Sunday School and ask children to bring a friend to the program.   Give an extra invite to anyone who wants to invite someone – “What do we ask you to do all the time? {invite a friend} We have asked you to invite someone to Sunday School and this would be a great time.  Tell them we are having a Patriotic Celebration party.  During the program they will hear about Jesus’ opinion on how to treat Church and Country Leaders”.

6.       Copy coloring books and copy and cut out flag for mounting on Popsicle stick.

7.       Buy flag ribbon and safety pins (for beading) and stuff from Oriental Trading.

8.       Get anything else ready for program.

DAY OF PROGRAM:

9.       Gather supplies and put them in Fellowship Hall:  scissors, tape, glue dots, crayons, craft materials, camera, etc.

10.   Have children gather in Children’s Church room until Choir passes.  Use the time to ask children to pray for a church leader or country leader and bless the food.  Attach ribbon to children.

11.   We will have these parts of the program:

a.       program,

b.      crafts,

c.       and refreshments.

12.   Have children sit in a semi-circle on the floor in Fellowship Hall (gets their attention better) and discuss the program.

a.       Read verse from BIBLE about respecting countries leaders.  Open your Bible and read it out loud – simplify to level of understanding of children.  We want the children to SEE us reading from the Bible.   Mat 22:15 – 22.

22:15 Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in [his] talk.

22:16 And they sent out unto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any [man]: for thou regardest not the person of men.

22:17 Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not?

22:18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, [ye] hypocrites?

22:19 Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny.

22:20 And he saith unto them, Whose [is] this image and superscription?

22:21 They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's.

22:22 When they had heard [these words], they marveled, and left him, and went their way.

a.       Ask what 4th means to them.

b.      Discuss respecting Sunday School teacher, deacon and pastor, etc. – give attention, don’t talk during lesson/sermon, raise hands, Sir and Miss, etc.

c.       Read poems and verses from coloring book (goes home with child – don’t color during program unless you run out of program before Sunday Service is up).

d.      Ask kids what Patriotic songs we can sing.  Let them name them themselves – ex:      .  Sing one or two.

e.      Do crafts:  There are several crafts for the 4th in the zip lock bag in the closet – you can choose one or two.

                                                               i.      Color flag and paste on popsicle stick.

                                                             ii.       Cloring Books:  family crafts.com

13.   Have refreshments.

14.   Give children goodie bags and coloring books on the way out of the Fellowship Hall.

AFTER 2009 PROGRAM:

1.       Chose theme for next year’s program:

2.       Check supplies in hall closet.  Order any items needed for goodie bags to go with theme from Oriental Trading and buy sale items at stores after the 4th while on sale.  Put in the large labeled zip lock bag that is in hall closet.

3.       Keep receipts to turn in to Brother Ken – you will have to wait till next Church year to get refund (unless you have bought and got refund for 2009 program in 2008).  This program is under Children’s Activities (write on receipt) – keep within the budget!

One Nation Under God

Those Who Dare Fight

Hand Above the Eye

One Nation Under God we live
Think about all some had to give

We the people share freedom’s life
In a world of ever present strife

Be grateful to those who keep this true
Warriors of our red, white, and blue

They're trained by those of great skill
Honed to perform, so strong their will

They show what love is all about
They’ll fight for us, there is no doubt

Defending bravely what we are
No holding back each heartfelt star

Highly praise these men and women
Giving thanks time and again

Those in uniform will always be
The golden pride of this country

©2007Roger J. Robicheau

Since our inception, we’DE been free
Praise those brave who’ve kept this to be

America, how blessed we are
By those who dare fight, each bright star

Our brave do not dodge, love bears pride
When called to move out, how they stride

They show they’re our absolute plus
They'll not send mixed signals to us

They keep our strong freedom alive
In a world where it’s tough to survive

All who proudly marched in our past
Their deeds helped this nation to last

To the brave war has taken away
Hold Solemn Memorial Day

Honor each with love and respect
Take time to feel sorrow, reflect

Pray to God as our young march on
Leading liberty through each dawn

Show thankfulness, wholehearted care
They stand for us, with pride, sincere

©2006Roger J. Robicheau

My grandpa's hand's above his eye
Each time he sees the flag go by.
I ask him what he does it for,
"Is it because you went to war?"

He said, "The flag is what we see
To remind us our great country's free.
Our fine flag stands for all that's good
From Washington to our neighborhood.

"Our men have marched on foreign shores
To fight in freedom saving wars.
And over them, it always flew.
This famous cloth; red, white and blue.

Across the world folks wish to be
With us, in this land of the free."
The drums' rat-tat, the bugles cry,
I fill with pride, the flag goes by.

But I hear now, that times are bad,
Some folks are poor, some folks are sad.
But hope must keep our banner high.
I salute with him when it goes by.

Easter Program 2009 for the Children

“An Empty Cross!”

March 22, 2008

10am – 12noon

The focus of this program is that our cross is empty because Jesus was raised from the dead and he is NOT STILL HANGING ON THAT CROSS!  All activities are designed to impart this message to the children.

1.       We will have these parts of the program:

a.       program,

b.      crafts,

c.       egg hunt,

d.      and refreshments.

BEFORE PROGRAM:

2.       Set date for a Saturday around Easter.  Arrange for help (will need it during craft and egg hunt time).  Publish in bulletin.  Make a double sided insert with the announcement and poems, etc. – be sure to give to Bro. Ken early to copy or copy yourself and give to him to insert.  Announce and explain purpose of program during the Sunday service.   “This is our annual Easter Celebration for the children.   We will be focusing on ……. This year.  We will have a program, crafts, egg hunt, and refreshments.”

3.       Put a sign-up sheet in front and back of the church.

4.       Don’t forget to arrange for refreshments.  Keep them light – cupcakes/ cookies/cheese bunnies and juice bottles.  Have enough for about 32 (again check sign-in sheet and have some for adults).

5.       Make about 24 goodie bags before the program (more if the sign-in sheet indicates more will be present – everything can be recycled).  There is plenty to fill them this year as I bought LOT’s after last year’s program – the stuff is in the hall closet {in zip lock bag (do not use fish hooks – for next year) and the water guns.  The large guns are for the older kid Egg Hunt winners} and in the Office in the cabinet.  Will need to ask for or buy candy for the bags and eggs right before filling them (there are scripture jellybeans in the hall closet for the bags).  Use the white or brown bags in the Office.  Staple an Easter cut-out to decorate the bag.  Children from church that did not come to program will also want to get one the next day so we need extra and any extra goodie bag items can be recycled.  Extra items can be saved for next year, used for the Christmas boxes or in the “Treasure Box” for Children’s Church (prizes given to children every first Sunday for being “good”).  Give the extra candy to the Children’s Church teacher to pass out during Children’s Church.

6.       Make sure there is cardstock for the front and back covers of the coloring book in office – ask Bro. Ken to buy some if there isn’t any.

7.       Give out invites/reminders the Sunday before the program in Sunday School and ask children to bring a friend to the program.   Give an extra invite to anyone who wants to invite someone – say something like this to the children “What do we ask you to do all the time? {invite a friend} We have asked you to invite someone to Sunday School and this would be a great time.  Tell them we are having an Easter Celebration party and egg hunt.  During the program they will hear about Jesus.”

8.       Make up and copy coloring books.  Books may have scripture, games, mazes, poems and coloring pages – make an attempt to make the content Christian and make a new one each year. Try to have 4 or 5 pages back and front.  Use cardstock (stiff paper) for the front and back covers.

9.       Get anything else ready for program.

a.       Fill eggs – tape shut so they won’t break open during the hunt.  Use the sign-up sheet to determine how many eggs to put in each category (the age category with the most kids gets the most eggs.  I also like to give the older kids more eggs).

b.      Stakes and ribbon to section off egg hunt areas.

c.       Make cross necklaces (colorful crosses need to be mounted on embroidery thread.)

d.      Find simple Christian Easter songs.

DAY OF PROGRAM:  Get there early with your help

10.   Gather supplies and put them in Fellowship Hall:  scissors, tape, glue dots, crayons, craft materials, camera, etc.

11.   Section off egg hunt areas with stakes and ribbon and hide eggs or have people hide the eggs during the program.

12.   PROGRAM:  Have children sit in a semi-circle on the floor in Fellowship Hall (gets their attention better) and discuss the program.  The Easter story will be told with the eggs.

a.       Pass around the eggs numbered and lettered.  Use “Resurrection Eggs” and then label 12 more eggs “a to l” and place a verse and item in each of these eggs.  Fit these eggs into the story of the “1 – 12” eggs {so that you may have 1, 2, 3, a, 4, b, c,…… however the verse fits best into the “Resurrection Eggs” story}.

b.      Have the children show the item in the egg and then read the verse in the egg.  Discuss each egg in a story format.

c.       Collect the eggs in a basket and exchange the item for a cross necklace.

13.   Show 2 crosses (Catholic) and ours – what is the difference?  What does it means?

14.   Read poems, etc. from coloring book (goes home with child – don’t color during program unless you run out of program before Sunday Service is up).

15.   Ask what Easter means to them.

16.   Ask kids what songs we can sing about Easter.  Let them name them themselves. Sing 2 or 3.

                     http://matneywoodard.home.att.net/songs.htm

17.   Do crafts:  There are several crafts for Easter in the zip lock bag in the hall – you can choose one or two.

18.   Egg Hunt.

19.   Have refreshments.

20.   Give out prizes first then dismiss with prayer.

21.   Give children goodie bags and coloring books on the way out of the Fellowship Hall.

AFTER 2009 PROGRAM:

1.       Chose theme for next year’s program:  fisher’s of men (fish hook necklaces).

2.       Check supplies in hall closet.  Order any items needed for goodie bags to go with theme from Oriental Trading and buy sale items at stores after Easter while on sale.  Put in large labeled zip lock bag that is in hall closet.

3.       Keep receipts and turn in to Brother Ken.  This program is under Children’s Activities (write on receipt) – keep within the budget!
