Fourth of July

Respect of our Church and Country Leaders

This program will teach our children to respect of our Church (pastor, deacons, SS teachers, CC teachers, etc.) and Country leaders.

BEFORE PROGRAM:

1.       Set date for a Sunday around the 4th (check with the Pastor).  Arrange for help (will need it during craft time).  Publish in bulletin.  Program is for children 3 to 12.  Announce and explain purpose of program during the Sunday service.

2.       Don’t forget to arrange for refreshments.  Keep them light – flag cupcakes/ cookies and juice bottle.  Have enough for 24.

3.       Make about 24 goodie bags before program.  Some items are in the hall closet.  Will need to buy candy for bags right before filling them (there are jellybeans and candy canes in the hall closet).  Children from church that did not come to program and those in the Nursery will also want to get one before leaving church so we need extra and any extra goodie bag items can be recycled.  Extra items can be saved for next year, used for the Christmas boxes or in the “Treasure Box” for Children’s Church (prizes given to children every first Sunday for being “good”).  Give the extra candy to the next Children’s Church teacher to pass out.

4.       Make sure there is cardstock in office for coloring book front and back pages and cards – ask Bro Ken to buy some if there isn’t any.

5.       Give out invites/reminders the Sunday before the program in Sunday School and ask children to bring a friend to the program.   Give an extra invite to anyone who wants to invite someone – “What do we ask you to do all the time? {invite a friend} We have asked you to invite someone to Sunday School and this would be a great time.  Tell them we are having a Patriotic Celebration party.  During the program they will hear about Jesus’ opinion on how to treat Church and Country Leaders”.

6.       Copy coloring books and copy and cut out flag for mounting on Popsicle stick.

7.       Buy flag ribbon and safety pins (for beading) and stuff from Oriental Trading.

8.       Get anything else ready for program.

DAY OF PROGRAM:

9.       Gather supplies and put them in Fellowship Hall:  scissors, tape, glue dots, crayons, craft materials, camera, etc.

10.   Have children gather in Children’s Church room until Choir passes.  Use the time to ask children to pray for a church leader or country leader and bless the food.  Attach ribbon to children.

11.   We will have these parts of the program:

a.       program,

b.      crafts,

c.       and refreshments.

12.   Have children sit in a semi-circle on the floor in Fellowship Hall (gets their attention better) and discuss the program.

a.       Read verse from BIBLE about respecting countries leaders.  Open your Bible and read it out loud – simplify to level of understanding of children.  We want the children to SEE us reading from the Bible.   Mat 22:15 – 22.

22:15 Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in [his] talk.

22:16 And they sent out unto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any [man]: for thou regardest not the person of men.

22:17 Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not?

22:18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, [ye] hypocrites?

22:19 Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny.

22:20 And he saith unto them, Whose [is] this image and superscription?

22:21 They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's.

22:22 When they had heard [these words], they marveled, and left him, and went their way.

a.       Ask what 4th means to them.

b.      Discuss respecting Sunday School teacher, deacon and pastor, etc. – give attention, don’t talk during lesson/sermon, raise hands, Sir and Miss, etc.

c.       Read poems and verses from coloring book (goes home with child – don’t color during program unless you run out of program before Sunday Service is up).

d.      Ask kids what Patriotic songs we can sing.  Let them name them themselves – ex:      .  Sing one or two.

e.      Do crafts:  There are several crafts for the 4th in the zip lock bag in the closet – you can choose one or two.

                                                               i.      Color flag and paste on popsicle stick.

                                                             ii.       Cloring Books:  family crafts.com

13.   Have refreshments.

14.   Give children goodie bags and coloring books on the way out of the Fellowship Hall.

AFTER 2009 PROGRAM:

1.       Chose theme for next year’s program:

2.       Check supplies in hall closet.  Order any items needed for goodie bags to go with theme from Oriental Trading and buy sale items at stores after the 4th while on sale.  Put in the large labeled zip lock bag that is in hall closet.

3.       Keep receipts to turn in to Brother Ken – you will have to wait till next Church year to get refund (unless you have bought and got refund for 2009 program in 2008).  This program is under Children’s Activities (write on receipt) – keep within the budget!

One Nation Under God

Those Who Dare Fight

Hand Above the Eye

One Nation Under God we live
Think about all some had to give

We the people share freedom’s life
In a world of ever present strife

Be grateful to those who keep this true
Warriors of our red, white, and blue

They're trained by those of great skill
Honed to perform, so strong their will

They show what love is all about
They’ll fight for us, there is no doubt

Defending bravely what we are
No holding back each heartfelt star

Highly praise these men and women
Giving thanks time and again

Those in uniform will always be
The golden pride of this country

Since our inception, we’DE been free
Praise those brave who’ve kept this to be

America, how blessed we are
By those who dare fight, each bright star

Our brave do not dodge, love bears pride
When called to move out, how they stride

They show they’re our absolute plus
They'll not send mixed signals to us

They keep our strong freedom alive
In a world where it’s tough to survive

All who proudly marched in our past
Their deeds helped this nation to last

To the brave war has taken away
Hold Solemn Memorial Day

Honor each with love and respect
Take time to feel sorrow, reflect

Pray to God as our young march on
Leading liberty through each dawn

Show thankfulness, wholehearted care
They stand for us, with pride, sincere

My grandpa's hand's above his eye
Each time he sees the flag go by.
I ask him what he does it for,
"Is it because you went to war?"

He said, "The flag is what we see
To remind us our great country's free.
Our fine flag stands for all that's good
From Washington to our neighborhood.

"Our men have marched on foreign shores
To fight in freedom saving wars.
And over them, it always flew.
This famous cloth; red, white and blue.

Across the world folks wish to be
With us, in this land of the free."
The drums' rat-tat, the bugles cry,
I fill with pride, the flag goes by.

But I hear now, that times are bad,
Some folks are poor, some folks are sad.
But hope must keep our banner high.
I salute with him when it goes by.
