This anthology is excellent. Not a bad story in the bunch. Fairy tales as you have never read before. As the title suggests this is not your average fairy tale book where the prince battles the dragon to save the princess. Sometimes the dragon is the hero of the story. These tales are sheer fun. Read the book - you'll chuckle from cover to cover. My favorite tale was of a role playing game come true.

This is an excellent parody on a conventional fairy tale. Suitors for the not so Ice Princess' hand struggle to be the first to recover the Ancient Artifact and thwart the the Evil Overlord's plot to take over the fairytale kingdoms and win the hand of the fair Princess Rebbecca. Mayhem results as Prince Kevin attempts to infiltrate the Fortress of Doom and Becky attempts to go the Barbarian Princess route. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable book!

This is the moving story of how my best friend's Dad grew up in the Ukraine and served in WW II, being captured by the Germans and the finally being freed by the Americans. It recounts his efforts to not be repatriated to Russia but become a citizen of another country. He eventually found two Christian pamphlets in Russian and became a Christian then moved to America to attend La College here in Pineville, La then go on to seminary. It's the story of his journey to become a professor of theology and even Latin and Greek. He is an amazing man and if you want to read the book I can get it for you $12.99 plus S&H. It's probably only going to be carried on a local basis as he is was a professor and Baptist minister in this area. He is a whiz at language and is a truly wonderful man. He went back to the Soviet Union to help start a seminary even though he could have been sentenced to 25 years of hard labor as a defector - if you were captured by the Germans you were said to have defected. I knew a lot of the story before I read the book just from practically growing up in his house as a teenager. But there was plenty I didn't know about this amazing man. You'll really want to read this inspirational book.

A religious person told me to read this book but after reading it I don't know why! I won't ruin the "surprise" but it's a doosey! As an action book it is great. It'll keep you on the edge of your chair it's that action packed! Based on a 12th century monk's diary Gil and Sabbie search for a bronze scroll promising great treasure or great knowledge.

I first read this book in the fifth grade but have enjoyed rereading it. I found a lot of subtleties I missed in my first reading oh so long ago. I have been looking for this book for years and was delighted to finally find it on Amazon. In the book Robin and her family are migrant workers. Her father is in fragile health and not able to withstand the rigors of migrant farm work so is frequently ill. Robin lives in a dream world most of the time. They move about frequently until finding a home in Las Palmerars a fruit farm and rancho. Robin soon makes friends with Bridget a former housekeeper and nurse to Gwen the daughter of the Las Palmerars owner. She gives Robin a key and Robin soon finds the way into the old Las Palmerars house and discovers the velvet room an alcove of the library. Robin has many adventures and the story has a happy ending. If you read this book as a child you will enjoy rereading it or if you've never read it take time to read this book.

Great book but not the mystery I expected. While there was a mystery death in the book it did not dominate the book. The book was more about Jane, a writer, and Mel, a detective, deciding to get married and Jane's ex mother-in-law fro hell and her to be mother-in-law from hell. Jane decides to build Mel his own home office as a wedding present and a part of the book is taken over by building. A great deal of the book is put into getting ready for the tow weddings, the real civial wedding and the fake wedding to be thrown by the future mother-in-law from hell! Overall it was a good book and well worth reading. I'd be interested in reading some more by Jill Churchill.

Delves into the history of canning of foods and why early canning methods often caused death and debilitation. Ends with some more recent food-borne outbreaks like the deaths of children from eating Jack in the Box hamburgers and the Rajneeshees deliberate contamination of salad bars in the attempt to take over a town. This interesting book about three friends covers the day to day lives of a "perfect" stay at home mom, an international businesswoman and a successful single business woman. The three friends experience their share of troubles as the book develops and their perfect lives begin to develop cracks. From Marie, the international business woman, who habitually flirts with men on her business trips while her husband Louis stays at home and tends the house and kids beginning to reap the results of those flirtations on her marriage to Mai the "perfect" housewife whose husband experiences a 13 year old problem that comes back to haunt him causing troubles at work and dealing with a surly 13 year old and then there is Kennedy, the ultimate modern business woman, contending with dating multiple men but never letting them into her life or heart until she meets Troy, a meeting in which she looses her heart and almost her job while dealing with a father who has Alzheimers; the three friends deal with their troubles separately until finally sharing them with each other. Will their troubles drive the friends and their families apart or bring them closer together? While this book is African American literature I believe anyone who enjoys conflict and romance will enjoy it. I know I did. Be warned, there is cursing and many adult subjects dealt with in this book.
A Cracked Fairy Tale Prince Charmin charged up to the castle, well the school that looked like a castle, carrying a box under his arm and a saddlebag over his arm. He raced up the stairs to the top tower room and there beheld the loveliest girl he had ever seen. He put down the box, raced to her sleeping side, and took her in his arms and kissed her. She awakened. He asked her “Quickly what is my name?” She answered “As I’m awake I you must be Prince Charmin.” He asked the second question “What is my nickname?” She looked at him and thought for a long moment and saw he had coal black hair and a number of shiny medals pinned to his uniform and a number of shiny necklaces around his neck and one shiny diamond in his ear and said “You must be called Raven.” He said “Right!” and kissed her again for good measure. He said “Next you must prepare food to my liking.” He turned and went to the table by the door where he had left the strange box and his saddle bag. He put it on the bedside table and looked around for a plug. “What’s a plug?” she asked. “Nevermind” he said, “I didn’t think the old witch would have electricity laid on in this room so I came prepared.” and he took a battery out of the saddlebag and plugged the cord into it. He put a package in the box and told her, “Here, press the numbers 2 and 5 and hit start.” When she hesitated (because she had never learned her numbers) he took her hand and pressed her index finger on the two then the five then the start button. The box made a strange whirling noise and when he opened the door the smell of fresh cinnamon entered the room. He told her to take the package out and give it to him so she did. He opened the package took a bite and said “Perfect!” and handed her the package and told her to eat that anyone who had been sleeping for 100 years minus one hour must be hungry. She gingerly took a bite and it was delicious. It was soon gone. He asked, “How did a nice girl like you end up in this situation?” “Once I went to the Royal Academy of the Arts to learn to be a witch. That witch took one look at me and said ‘She must marry a prince’ and grabbed me by the hand and pulled me up to the top of the stairs to this tower bedroom. The witch entered the room followed closely by a wolf and a bear. I was sere afraid. But the witch laughed and suddenly the animals were nothing more than mere lads. She had changed them into animal on a lark and forgot to change them back! She laid a spell on me than I must wait for my Prince Charming only being uneducated herself she left the “g” off and the charm came out Prince Charmin. Prince after prince came to kiss me away but they did nothing, not even stir me on my bed. One royal family even took to naming their sons Charming to break the spell. But nothing happened until your grandfather was born and the “g” was accidently left off his name by the archbishop who had been brought up from an uneducated boy and still slipped every now and again when christing him. Well there was nothing to do, his name couldn’t be change once it was officially given, and so Charmin he was. And he was the one to break the spell, only we got into a fight over the conditions the witch had laid on the spell. I guessed his name and his nick name - Chubby, but when it came to preparing the meal he loved best I failed miserably. I burned the chicken cordon blue and he said ‘Just go back to sleep’, so I did.” Prince Charmin looked around nervously, “Let’s get out of here I hear the witch has a propensity for turning princes into frogs.” “Nonsense,” the loveliest girl in the land said, “I must thank the witch for teaching me magic.” “Magic, what are you talking about she put you to sleep as soon as you got here.” “Exactly,” she said, “she taught me sleep magic. I think that will be a great skill when the little princes and princess come along!”

Jill has done it again. You'll be laughing from the introduction to the end! Tells you everything you need to tell your precious child, now that he or she is here, about WHY not to get, herself mainly, pregnant - epismioties and flopping breast figure heavily in. A laugh a minute - heck she packs in four or five a minute. You'll learn stuff even if your kids are up and grown. Read it it's a scream!
Peeps, like 'em or hate 'em which are you? Me, I don't like them. This may be because momma bought one package and divided them betweeen us - this left the marshmellowey (shudder!) goodness to get stale and let Easter grass get all over the Peeps. So peeps, DON'T LIKE 'EM
Except for my PEEPS here! Y'all I love and get a 5!
These are the best cookies EVER. Try them warm - put them in the microwave for about 18 seconds depending on your microwave and then sit back and enjoy!

Author has bi-polar disorder and suffers from hypo-manic attacks. This book is very interesting in that it's written by someone who's been there, done that!
| Category: | Books | | Genre: | Health, Mind & Body | | Author: | Candida Fink, MD and Joe Kraynak |
Good book for both people with bi-polar (OLD name manic-depressive) disorder and their loved ones. Very easy to read. Lots of information - drugs, treatments, etc.
I haven't figured out if the author's names are a joke or what! But if my name was Candida, I'd change it ASAP!
